Coyotes!

I happened to look out the window this morning, and saw something running across the neighbour's field. I grabbed the binoculars just as it stopped on a small hillock north of our property line, and saw it was a coyote. David saw a second one that ran and caught up with the first one. They stood there for a couple of minutes, surveying the field, before moving off into the woods. It was unbelievable! Last spring David woke to the sounds of coyotes and pups yipping, so we're hoping that their den is in the nearby woods. We'll keep our eyes and ears open in case we see or hear them!

Unfortunately, there are no pictures since my little point&shoot wouldn't zoom in close enough, and my older SLR has no film or batteries. That will be soon remedied.

New furniture!

Last Saturday we received some new furniture! A nice, big sectional for our living room...

Which means our old sofa moved upstairs...

And a new queen sized bed! It's so nice to no longer have to fight for bed space in a double ;)

The Epic Tale of the Pothole from Hell...

On our way home last night, we hit what we think was a pothole. And not just any pothole, but a life-changing pothole of epic proportions.
Like I said... epic proportions. We slowly hobbled our way off the highway, where we were able to change the tire, and then continued from Rigaud to Hawkesbury at 70 kph to the local Canadian Tire. I think the staff of the service centre were happy to see us (they were having a pretty slow night), and even commented that dented rims were pretty normal for this time of year. And then they looked at our tire... and said they'd seen dented rims before, but not an epic dent like ours.

We were told they had a replacement rim in stock, and we patiently waited for them to replace it. After a few minutes, they came back with worried looks and started searching inventory in the computer. It seems that although the standard wheel size for our model is 14", our car has 15" wheels... and they don't have any of those in stock. Maybe a similar model from Toyota? Honda? Anything?? As it turned out, they had some 15" rims in stock, but they were the wrong width... 1/2 inch too big kind of wrong. So, they sent us home with a "at least you're getting a day off work tomorrow!" with the promise to find us a rim today.

So here I sit, at 7am, waiting for the Toyota dealership to open to see if they have a replacement rim for us, so we can get to work.

See... I told you it was life-changing.

Catching up

It's been really quiet around here since we went back to work last month... we're up before the sun, and usually home after it sets. Our weekends have been pretty tame as well.

Yesterday we took two of our cats to the vet to have them checked out. Oreo has developed some brown spots on his iris (looks ok, we just need to keep checking it in case it starts to bother him) and Jinxie has some hair loss on the tips of his ears, a swollen toe pad, and... he hates his tail. Literally. He seems to have a sore at the tip and cries when he tries to clean it, then tries to run away from it and gets mad because it's following him! The vet gave us antibiotics & cortisone, so hopefully his tail hatred will turn back to indifference soon.

Snow Bound

We knew there was a snowstorm coming, but when we looked out the window yesterday morning and saw this, we thought it might be a good day to stay home.

When we saw the snowfall warning from Environment Canada, encouraging anyone who did not need to travel stay home, we thought we were justified in staying cozy at home all day. As I was enjoying the day in the basement, watching movies and playing some Wii, I couldn't help but notice the window wells filling up with snow.

Luckily we don't use our front door very often...

Later in the afternoon, once it started to let up a bit, I heard the rumbling of the snow blower... at least we were able to get out of the driveway today!
